Beachside cottages

Long Island, The Bahamas

George was always so responsive to my emails which spanned about 2 years until I could finally get this trip nailed down. He met us at the cottage like we were old friends! We truly enjoyed his company and also his wife and daughter! They are wonderful hosts. We wanted for nothing. When George saw that our towels that were drying on the line were rained on overnight, he immediately brought fresh ones without us even asking! He was there when you needed him, or allowed you your privacy. We welcomed his company anytime though as he always has great suggestions for things to do on the island and he tolerated my husband's constant curiousity about buying property there! George is an expert at this. There are 2 rental properties along with the main house. One is a 2 br 2 ba cottage that is skillfully built out of steel panels for maximum strength and climate control. There is a screened porch, outdoor shower and foot wash, grill, free wifi, soon to be plush couches and flat screen tv, full kitchen, great aC throughout and the water is double filtered and safe to drink. The other property is a four bedroom beach house with double screened in porches and a large living room which would be great for bigger families. Soon George is adding beach palapas and fire pits! The water is gorgeous with a nice long walkable beach. He has kayaks available as well. And best of all, George has planted almost 400 palm trees between each of the 3 properties! It will look like a scene from the South Pacific once they are all fully grown! Best of all, there is plenty of fresh coconuts which my husband loves! We had the best week stayined with George at Whymmsical Wish and are hoping to get back there in the fall. Thanks George! Heather & Vince.

The cottage is crisp, clean and cool with with tall ceilings...George was very helpful from the beginning and made sure we had all we needed to have a great time and experience the island. There was always someone available if we had questions or needed to know more about the island.

The island is quiet and we had a wonderful time exploring all the different parts of the island. As a family we really like to explore and see places that are off the beaten path and not touristy...This place is perfect for that. So many neat spots we found on the island were crowded with only the 4 of us...peaceful and relaxing.

Our favorites things were...Dean's Blue Hole, Fishing from shore, Walking the beach in front of the Cottage at dawn, crystal blue water, the quiet and amazing sunsets in front of cottage..fresh conch...great food.

Overall it was a wonderful trips... definitely recommend it!

George made my first trip tot the Bahamas, the best vacation I've ever had. The proximity of the cottage to some of the most stunning parts of the island was a huge plus. The cottage has fantastic high ceilings, great windows and fans-- no need to use the air conditioning. Screened porch didn't let any bugs through. Great kitchen, we cooked most nights during our week. George is a fabulous host-- checked in on us but also gave us plenty of space to feel like we were really exploring on our own. If we ever needed anything or had a question, he was totally available.

You will never again experience anything like this in your entire life.  George takes care of every need.  We knew from the moment we arrived at Stella Maris Airport( another experience) we were treated like royalty.  Every person we met on Long Island was like your long lost friend.  What a great treat.  George arranged every detail , from the moment we arrived til the day of departure. George had a local fisherman dive for lobster and bring lobsters to his compound for our first night's meal.  They were the size of a man's forearm and very tasty. We were only there for a week, but we experienced a lifetime of memories.   "George's Compound" consists of his beautiful 4000 sf home and 3 rental villas.  All of the accommodations were very clean, had all of the amenities anyone needs and from our patio, every morning and evening we experienced the sunrise and sunset over the ocean.  Every sunset was different each day, creating another awesome memory.  From the time you arrive, you are totally in another world, and what a great world it is.  George programmed our entire stay and arranged for all of the accommodations we needed for a week's worth of fun and sun.   We saw 14 unbelievable beaches, and every beach was different.  The "Trash Beach" is a must see.  One of the most memorable experiences is Dean's Blue Hole, where William Trubridge, free dives to depths beyond your imagination.   We actually were there on a day when he did a free dive to more than 443 ft.  We snorkeled above the blue hole and saw the same dive he filmed on the "60 Minutes" segment the weekend we got back home.  That was historical.  George provided maps and guidance to "Must Sees" on Long Island.  He arranged for a car rental so we could experience firsthand the actual "Island Life".  One day we went to Columbus's Monument, on George's recommendation,  and climbed to the summit and enjoyed the views of the north end of the island, truly a sight to see.  Virtually a panoramic view of the ocean from a summit on the cliffs of Long Island.  A stop at Cape Santa Maria Resort was spectacular.  This is one of the only commercialized resorts on the island and has great views and beaches from the cabana bar.  From there, we cruised along the eastern side of the island to "Moonshine Bar" where the views of the cliffs and crashing waves were phenomenal, to say the least.  Make sure you visit and say "Hi" to Sue.  She was tremendous. The next stop was the Beach Bungalow Bar where the locals put on a "Rake and Scrape" event every Thursday for all of the residents.  Beautiful people and again, awesome sunsets. (Everyone needs to experience a "Rake and Scrape" Event where the locals play "Saws" and "Wash Boards" and make some beautiful music.)

One of the most memorable days of our stay was a full day of fishing on the ocean with "Daniel".   What a phenomenal day we all had!!  Ask George to arrange a day with Daniel.  You will never forget it.  Daniel actually picked us up at George's compound, brought us to the store for groceries and bait, went to the marina, fueled up, loaded the boat and  proceeded out to the north end of Long Island for the most astonishing days of fishing we all ever had, and we fish a lot in Florida!!  The seas were a bit rough, but he took us to some good fishing holes that produced a lot of snapper for dinner.  Then he took us to a reef and we all snorkeled over a reef area that we will never experience again.  He took us to a private, sand beach and we chilled out for a while before taking us back to George's compound, where Daniel, our guide, cleaned the fish and grilled them to perfection for our dinner.   You need to meet Daniel!!!  He is a terrific guide and our "Newest Best Friend"....other than George~~~

On another adventurous day, George guided us to the famous "Kenny's Seaside Villas" on the leeward side of the island.  This is truly a must see place...to say the least!!!.  Kenny does everything...When you get there, he waves you down to the Tiki Bar on the Ocean, where he is a one stop shop!!!  He makes the drinks, prepares the meals and serves them, right in front of you.  You have to experience the Conch Salad, prepared especially for you by Kenny.  You actually pick our your own live Conch from his fresh Ocean Pool and watch him prepare his wonderful Conch Salad in front of you.  It takes a while, but when you have a Kalik Island Beer, you don't mind the wait!!!

Larry and Jackie and Bonnie and Bob will recommend George's Place highly to all!!!  You truly need to experience this for yourself!  You will NEVER forget this place, guaranteed!!!  Not your normal tourist vacation!!!

ยท  Simply Magical Left on 08/03/2013 for a stay in July 2013 John and Barbara Pounds, Loganville, Ga We needed a secluded vacation away from the busy and hectic life we live. We never had a vacation alone. After much research I contacted George about renting his cottage. We never left the United States and didn't know how how this could be done. The level of service we received before we even left our home for the airport was amazing. George mapped out our entire trip from airlines and hotels, car rentals and possible ideas of what we could do and see once we arrived. I am talking 37 email responses!!! Once we finally arrived in Long Island for our 10 day stay, George had Presley Pinder (TJs Boat Rental and Fishing Excursions) waiting for us at the airport. Presley waited there for almost 2 hours because of the flight delay from Nassau. He then stopped at the store and waited patiently as we gathered food supplies for our stay. Upon arriving at our cottage, George and daughter, Jessica, was waiting there to greet us with a smile. They made sure we was comfortable and relaxed to enjoy our first evening alone in many years. One of the main events of our vacation was the vow renewals that George planned for us. What an awesome evening this was!!! I was able to pick a spot on the property and create a special environment without even having to ask. The Padre came and performed a wonderful ceremony. 13 others were there in attendance. George, his lovely wife, Cindy, her Mother, sisters, and a friend. Presley Pinder and his wife also came. John Osler and his family from Canada was in attendance as well. Jessica, Cindy and Georges' Daughter took pictures of the event and gave them to us. After the ceremony, George opened his home for a special pizza dinner (home-made, of course) and had a special bottle of wine and nice glasses just for my wife and me to celebrate the occasion. It truly was a special and "magical" evening... just as Jessica said it would be. We have made many new and special friends on our vacation and we never thought it would have been as great as it truly was. Never before have we been treated with such care and thought. George and Cindy didn't just host our vacation stay, but welcomed us as friends. Our thanks and gratitude are extended to George and his family for the care and support we received. If you are in need of an Island vacation, we highly recommend joining the family of Whymmsical Wish!!! John M Pounds Jr
